Christina Sherman - Ira de Rijke - Sandy Astudillo - Carla Kagel

How Tropisphere came to be and who we are....

Christina ShermanCHRISTINA SHERMAN, PRESIDENT

Christina, a Colorado Native came to Costa Rica nearly 5 years ago and fell in love. She fell in love with the culture, people and the way of life. She went back to Colorado and decided to sell her house and bring her construction consulting business to Costa Rica. Having a background in legal, construction and mediation, she has been able to use these skills to negotiate the Hottest Deals for clients and walk them through all of the legalities of owning property and living in Costa Rica. Never an unsatisfied buyer, Christina will find the best deal for you whether you are looking to spend $25,000 or $2 million.

Initially working with a competing agency, Christina jumped at the chance to become an owner and partner of Tropishere.

Christina prefers to work with the Average Joe, rather than the multibillion dollar condo developers to insure the sustainability of her community. She prides herself in bringing great people to a great place. Christina also helps clients with post purchase services such as property and construction management.

Christina has started and worked with several non-profit organizations. Her previous company Construction Network helped to set the standard in credit, risk management, and accountability in the construction industry.

Christina is bilingual and spends her time with her husband, Miguel and two dogs, Guapo and Quilo (now the official mascots of Tropisphere.) When not busy working with Tropisphere, Christina is at the beach, attempting to fish or surf as well as learn to fire dance (The most important word here is attempting). She also suffers from a travel bug, always wanting to travel the world. Christina can be reached at: csherman@tropisphere.com or US tel #970-672-4007 (forwarded to CR) or Cel: 8722-5733

Sandy AstudilloSANDY ASTUDILLO, MARKETING CONSULTANT

Sandy Astudillo was born in Caracas, Venezuela. Coming from an immigrant family from Ecuador, she was taught in her early years the satisfaction of hard work and respect for mother nature.

She studied two years of Modern Languages (French - German - Spanish) at the Universidad Central de Venezuela. Because of the incompatibility of schedules between the school and work, she decided to switch majors and got a degree in Foreign Trade instead. Always passionate about learning, she took several different courses such as diplomatic and state protocol, accounting, Human Rights, English teaching through Multimedia among others. Sandy joined the workforce at a very young age, giving her an opportunity to work for various international companies settled in Venezuela. However, the most important job, in terms of duration and experience, was her job at the Embassy of Poland where she worked for eight years.

Her curiosity and passion for studying other languages opened her up to a whole new life of world traveler. Traveling widened her perspective about the planet; she learned to shy away from conformity and also observe the importance of tolerance and humbleness.

She came to Costa Rica for holidays, in 2008, but the Pura Vida style and ecological consciousness of the country, made her stay. Currently, her home is in Montezuma, where she lives with her partner in life and business, Hodges Apellido. From him, she has learned a lot about music, life and science, and the courage to start together their own company Paraiso Publicidad, a company dedicated to unique and innovative graphic design, translation and direct advertising.

They, as Paraiso Publicidad, were sucked into Tropisphere through shear synchronicity and a mutual desire to save the world! Both decided to accept the challenge of helping with the Marketing area because Tropisphere is an agency which cares about the environment and participates in projects for the community in which they live and participate in. They have a Siberian husky named Sabastian who believes himself to be a little prince.

Sandy can be reached at sandy@tropisphere.com or Cell: 8844-5131

Sandy AstudilloCARLA KAGEL, SALES CONSULTANT

Carla was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but spent a lot of time traveling among Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Chile.

She studied Image and Sound Design, at the Buenos Aires University (UBA) and had only 2 exams left to graduate before a strong desire for something different started growing inside her. She also took several photography, Fx, plastic and visual arts courses.

She was always curious about other places, cultures, people and their customs. She wanted to see and experience what was going on somewhere else, so when her friend asked her to travel to Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, she didnīt hesite and bought her ticket right away. By the time she arrived to Montezuma it was clear that she wasnīt going back home. This magical town captivated her in many different ways, the warm blue ocean, the colorful landscape, the friendly animals, the cozy village and the always smiling and helpful villagers.

Moving from a big city to a small town was a mind-opener. With her boyfriend's hand, she started to experience nature in all its splendor. Watching beautiful tomato plants grow from crops in a small earth rectangle was impressing and touching.

Carla loves the animals, always did, but in this place the feeling is deeper. It was very gratifying to be able to find good homes for stray dogs and cats.

She is persistent and likes to finish everything she started, even when it takes longer. (This is also for her career which she plans to finish whenever she gets back to Buenos Aires)

Her favorite thing to do during her free time is relaxing at the beach while listening to the ocean and the sound of the jungle; she likes gardening as well and playing with her dogs and cats or doing anything that her creative soul points to, like photography, making videos, painting, decorating or making lamps and mirrors from scratch. Hanging out with her boyfriend and friends is also enjoyable to her!

Fluent in Spanish, English, Portuguese and a bit of Italian, she enjoys socializing with people of all different cultures.

You can reach Carla at carla@tropisphere.com or Cell: 8805-1310
