A special Day in Cabuya with all the "Fixings"
Last Sunday May 30th, was the day to get your pet spayed or neutered in Cabuya on Nicoya Peninsula. The activity was organized by Teresa Cerdas of Cabo Blanco National Park, it began at 8:30 am and finished at 4:00pm. During this time cats and dogs from the streets (and also pets with owners) were fixed in an improvised surgery room.
The surgeries were possible thanks to the collaboration of Deanne Sharer, Veterinarian, many volunteers and local residents from Montezuma and Cabuya.
The objective is to "fix" ( though if you think about it, we really should call it "breaking"...)all the dogs and cats abandoned on the streets to reduce and, in a long term period, to stop the reproduction of these poor animals which suffer daily on the streets. To accomplish this goal, Teresa, would like to schedule ‘fix-a-pet day’ regularly.
On ‘fix-a-pet day’, the costs are between 5000 or 7000 colones (depending on whether the animal is male or female). The money collected that day is used to pay for the medical supplies and the service of the Veterinarian. However, for those families or persons of lower income bringing a pet, the service is free.
Undoubtedly, a noble and admirable cause : Nicoya Peninsula taking steps in ridding the area of sick, abandoned and helpless animals!!! Kudos and thanks to all involved see you at the next "fix-a-pet"!!!
