Starting this past October, some businesses took the initiative to organize a beach clean in order to rid the shore of all the rubbish that has collected or washed up on our beautiful beaches from other cities during the rainy season. Tropisphere Real Estate, one of the businesses, has being running this project every two weeks, on Saturdays, during the low tide. Thanks to the effort of community in general, the amount of garbage has been reduced significantly! However, there is still a lot of trash out on Playa Grande. This trash must be removed quickly to preserve the delicate eco system jeopardized by this build up of detritus.
If you would like to participate in these projects, please let us know by E-mail at sandy@tropisphere.com
Montezuma Recycles and its Recycling Extravaganza!
This is great news! Since December 2010, Montezuma has begun its very own Recycling Program. The program is being run by CaTuMo, with the collaboration of local businesses and volunteers. The project includes the recycling of glass, plastic, aluminum and tetra-pak (wine boxes, soy milk boxes, etc). There is a 'Recycling Guide' that we make available for you in a digital file, which indicates the types of materials that actually can be recycled.
As you might already have seen, there are containers in town where tourists and locals can deposit the recyclables. The containers are painted with different colors to indicate what items should be deposited where. There is also a storage center where local business and families can bring their recyclables.
This is a very ambitious and much needed program that will help the community to reduce tons of garbage generated by our modern life style and also to save energy and resources. A very important project that we are glad and proud to celebrate with a great party, taking place this Saturday 26th, starting at 3pm, in the soccer field of Montezuma with the game 'Ticos Vs Gringos', continuing at 4:30pm at Amor de Mar Hotel. Its going to be a great party full of art, live music, workshop related to recycling for kids, food, and lots of fun. Just bring a pack of plastic bags garden size (if possible biodegradable) and join us in this celebration!
