Once again the communities of Cobano and Montezuma have witnessed the progress of the SINEM Montezuma Orchestra’s students.
The occasion marked the closure of the Music Camp. The Music Camp takes place for a week during the school holidays at the end of the first semester, 4th of July, and at the end of the year. This year the music camp was sponsored by the General Direction of SINEM and the Mayor Hall of Cobano.
The Music Day Camp was directed and organized by Prof. Raul Ibarra. The young musician had additional instruction provided by guest professors and volunteers from Nicaragua, Colombia and United States. The camp took place in Montezuma’s music school for 8 hours per day during the entire week. The students devoted the time to learning and practicing instruments including brass, string and percussion. The result: a wonderful show!
For us who have followed the children in this amazing but also difficult path, it was touching to hear them play. The Overture of The Barber of Seville and The Ode to Joy were two of the pieces interpreted by the Orchestra in their concerts on July 8th and 10th. The program’s progression in a year is evident by the organization and evolution of the students and their musical skills.
Words are not enough to express the joy and pride the parents, professors and the whole community have. Still there are a lot of goals to achieve as well as learn. Hence, the Orchestra in Montezuma always welcomes volunteers from all over the world. Suggestions, support, donations and invitations to play in other places are appreciated.
